The Artworks CiC at Shaw Lodge mills recently received a £5k grant from the Community Foundation for Calderdale Yorkshire Venture Philanthropy Project (YVPP).
The YVP project is designed to help set up and develop social enterprises helping local voluntary groups become more sustainable and less reliant on grants. YVPP is funded partly by the European Union Regional Development Fund.
The Artworks’ funding will deliver artist studios which provide spaces linked to schools and galleries to aid the professional development of artists; helping to create a pool of talent in Arts & Crafts which will contribute to the cultural, social and economic renewal of our region. The Artworks’ existing Arts & Crafts programmes (educational and health focused) are designed to link into studio practice. Providing access to studio resources to those who show promise and to the most in need, offering opportunities for continued study and practical experience whilst addressing health inequalities and social welfare needs; improving quality of life, promoting recovery and independence in participants. Studio based practice offers a supported pathway designed to improve sustained health and well being, educational progression and encourage advancement into employment; offering progression routes which link with trade & industry to improve employability prospects.
