About Us

The Community Foundation for Calderdale is an independent registered charity that aims to improve quality of life for the people of Calderdale.

We do this by connecting people who care with causes that matter.

By raising money, through our network of supporting 'members' and donors, and holding a long-term investment fund, the Community Foundation for Calderdale is able to address local need indefinitely - the interest gained on the invested money is given out in grants.

As a member of the Foundation, you can make a difference on your doorstep!

Local people have the opportunity to give to local causes, see where their money has gone and be able to contribute to a permanent pot of cash to benefit the community forever.

The Foundation can make a difference to your life!

Grants are given to support causes as varied as social clubs for elderly people, community recycling schemes, children's after-school clubs, community bands, sports clubs, refugee centres, and individuals in crisis. Our long-term investment fund currently stands at over £6 million.

We are part of the national Community Foundation Network and international network of Community Foundations which exist to improve their local area, be it Hamburg or Honolulu, Toronto or Tuzla, Melbourne or Merseyside.

This philanthropic movement of Community Foundations originated in the USA in 1914, with the creation of a Community Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Within five years Community Foundations had also been established in Chicago, Boston, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Rhode Island and Buffalo.

Now, there are over 1000 Community Foundations across the world, giving people, wherever they are, the chance to make a lasting difference, locally.
