220 Volunteer and community workers are honoured at the Oscars

04/06/10

As party of National Volunteer week some 220 volunteer and community workers were honoured at a special celebration event held last night at Victoria Theatre, Halifax was created by Voluntary Action Calderdale.

The Ceremony now in its fourth year was developed to pay tribute to the wonderful and invaluable work and contributions made by the voluntary and community sector in Calderdale. The night included a buffet dinner, a live band to entertain guests and a full red carpet reception.

Tributes were paid to helpers from 41 groups in the district, each of which was presented by the Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Ann McAllister with a miniature "VAC Oscar" to mark their assistance.

Community Foundation for Calderdale; this years Mayor of Calderdale's chosen charity, was the first of the groups to be honoured. Seven hardworking and dedicated volunteer staff were nominated by Steve Duncan CEO and staff at the Foundation for the award to say thank you for giving up their time to support the work of the community.

We would like to once again say a big thank you to those invaluable people: Catherine Pasek, Karen Hodgkinson, Marta Lachowicz, Fran Orford, James Johnston, Richard Greenhalgh, LukaszSledziak.
