The Foundations major donors all have an interest in supporting the community through grants awarded by the Foundation.
The Community Foundations Main Grants Programme
The Foundations main grants programme is made up of various named funds. See below for the special areas of interest that these funds cover.
- Bill & Val Rooney Fund
Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary and community groups in Calderdale with a particular interest in projects benefiting elderly people.

Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary and community groups in Calderdale particularly those that benefit children and young people.
- Flood Fund
In times of localised flooding the Foundation makes grants available to those suffering from the effects of flooding. These are small grants for the relief of crisis need. The maximum amount available is £130 and all applications have to be completed by a referring agency, e.g. Citizen's Advice Bureau or Social Services.
- Gartland Family Trust
Supports a wide range of groups across Calderdale but especially considers projects that benefit people with learning difficulties.

Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary & community groups and individuals in Calderdale.
- George Normanton Christmas Box Fund (incorporating the Samuel Watson Batty Fund)
Supporting elderly people. - Halifax Courier Fund (incorporating the Oates Fund)
Supports applications that benefit young people either with sports or where a community facility is concerned.
- Halifax Old Folks Holiday Fund
This fund awards small grants of up to £150 towards holidays and short breaks for those who would not otherwise be able to get away.
- Individual Fund
The Individual Fund supports people facing disadvantage or deprivation and whose needs cannot be met readily from any other source, be it statutory or charitable. This fund is able to help meet a wide range of needs in many differing situations, particularly to help provide essential items for people in crisis. It does not support student fees or expedition expenses. The maximum amount available is £100 and all applications have to be completed by a referring agency, eg. Citizen's Advice Bureau or Social Services.
- John Smith's Lionheart Fund
John Smith's particularly like to support community facilities that are of benefit to a diverse range of people.
- Kathleen Mary Denham Fund
Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary and community groups in Calderdale.
- Kingscliffe Fund
Supports projects involving young people between 10 and 20 but only in Brighouse, Rastrick, Northowram & Lightcliffe.
- Lee Crossley Welfare Fund
For the maintenance of gravestones at both King Cross and All Saints Cemeteries - Nestlé Fund
This fund prefers to support before and afterschool clubs and groups focusing on healthy eating.
- Pliny Barrett Fund
This fund is to support administration costs of the Foundation, and is not for external grant making. - Provident Insurance Fund
Provident Insurance Fund particularly likes to support projects that benefit young people.
- Sport Relief
The Foundation manages this fund for Comic Relief supporting community and voluntary groups use sport to address local issues.
- Stephen Pearson Memorial Fund
This donor supports projects in the Pellon area of Halifax. - Todmorden Fund
Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary and community groups operating in Todmorden.
- Werner Townley Fund
Aims to promote community cohesion and harmony in Calderdale.
