Improve the quality of life for the people of Calderdale.

Scope Calderdale Community Outreach Service

In January Scope Calderdale was awarded £9,000 from 4Health 4fun 4Life plus an additional £1,000 match funding from Kathleen Mary Denham Fund. The grant has been awarded to assist a healthy eating project celebrating own grown produce and learning healthy ways of cooking and eating that all the family can enjoy. The events will take place in the cooking school. A programme of fun filled days for the family and individuals has been created to enjoy and to learn how to cook and eat healthy. Each event will focus on seasonal food that all the family can enjoy.

The project will involve customers with physical and or other disabilities who find accessing physical activity a barrier. Digging for Dinner will provide activity, support healthy lifestyles and living through the cultivation and eating of produce and the cookery sessions involved educating people in what to eat and when.

Next Step Trust

Next Step Trust have received a £5,000 Grants for Health award. The trust will use the grant to purchase a specially adapted bicycle at Spring Hall Athletics track. There is currently only one bike suitable for use by wheelchair bound Next Steppers which means a queuing system where each user gets only 15 minutes on the bike. A additional bike is needed and for practical reasons to improve the opportunities and time to participate. Weather permitting Next Steppers attend Spring Hall Athletics track at least once a week. This provides the opportunity for an outdoor activity and assists in promoting healthy living. The bicycles are also made available to pupils at Ravenscliffe High School and so extends the usage beyond the 25 Next Steppers to the 130+ pupils at the school. The additional bicycle will allow each Next Step wheelchair user to have a 30 minute slot on the bike which will assist in promoting their general well being in a safe outdoor setting.
