Improve the quality of life for the people of Calderdale.
Live Music Now! Yorkshire & Lincolnshire
Live Music Now! received £3,706 in July from the Kathleen Mary Denham fund. The grant will allow a further series of 24 participatory performances for older people who live in sheltered accommodation, or who attend day centres across Calderdale. The musicians involved are all experienced at working with older people, and will provide programmes that are both stimulating and enjoyable, as well as giving the audience opportunities to interact through singing, dancing, trying instruments, conducting and having the chance to request pieces which have particular significance to them.
Northern Orchestral Enterprises Ltd (NOEL)
Northern Orchestral Enterprises Ltd recieved £5,000 in July from the Gartland Family Trust to To identify and support young people of secondary school age with a particular musical talent to nurture and mentor them, tailoring their support appropriate to their needs. The Future Heroes programme has run since 2005, teaming talented young people identified through Secondary Schools in Calderdale, with professional singers, orchestra players and other musicians so they can have quality, in depth, one- to-one tutoring. NOEL also received a furtehr £500 from the Pliny Barrett fund to support one additional Future Hero.
St Augustines Centre
St Augustines Centre received £1,000 in July from the Kathleen Mary Denham fund. The award will fund a summer playscheme, which is well used, with over 60 children attending during the holidays. The children are from a range of backgrounds, and cultures, and mix well within the Centre. They take part in a range of activities working together and co-operating. This helps them to learn, and understand more about each others cultures, and backgrounds. They promote integration of the communities, which live in the area and try to promote and encourage a more cohesive community. Some families are regular attendees returning year after year with younger siblings.
St John the Divine Rastrick
St John the Divine Rastrick received £5,000 in July from the Kathleen Mary Denham fund. The grant will be used for the urgent refurbishment of the toilet area, and associated store rooms in the Church Hall. These require refurbishment and tiling to bring them up to a good, hygienic and useable standard and to DDA specification. These changes will mean that the Hall can be used for many events and encourage a greater number and diversity of people.
Treesponsibility
Treesponsibility received £7,080 in July from the Sport Relief fund. The grant will fund three environmental awareness residentials of three days each for groups of primary school children from West Central Halifax, who would not otherwise have access to the countryside. There will be an emphasis on the use of energy, past and present, human impact on the environment, and in particular how the landscape has been shaped through a combination of nature at work and human activity.
Wild Rose Arts
Wild Rose Arts received £4,982 in July from the General fund, to fund an AGE TO AGE PROJECT, which will be a four year oral history project incorporating five diverse themes within a longitudinal context of change. 'Age to Age' will aim to bring heritage alive through hearing local voices, by making people aware of the impact that recording local oral histories can make towards our understanding of our heritage and our communities.
All Saints Church Elland
All Saints Church Elland received £5,000 in June from the Kathleen Mary Denham Fund. The grant will allow a conversion of the Lower Vestry in to a fully operational Community facility, which will allow access to various new and existing community groups. The centre will include training facilities to allow some access to the business community, and will have disabled toilets and catering facilities to allow the area to be accessible for all areas of the community.
Bailiff Bridge Bowling Club
Bailiff Bridge Bowling Club received £874 in June from the Kathleen Mary Denham fund to provide suitable equipment for young people to use to play Crown Green Bowls. At present the club are able to loan pairs of woods of weights which are too heavy for use with young people. The club would like to increase involvement of young people in Crown Green Bowling initially and then involve Community Groups also.
Overgate Hospice
Overgate Hospice received £900 in June from the Gartland Family Trust. The award will support laundry costs and also allow the Hospice to buy some new bed linen. The hospice has a twelve bed Inpatient unit. The replacement of all the bed linen and duvets will enhance the dignity and standard of care for the patients.
Palliative and terminal care isn't about changing lives it's about making the life that's left the most valuable it can be. To see a hospice room with new, fresh bed linen will make a therapeutic difference to our patients, their relatives and visitors
Sowood Pre-school & Toddlers
Sowood Pre-school & Toddlers received £1,500 in June from the Kathleen Mary Denham Fund. The grant will enable the group to set up a separate Parent & Toddler group within the pre-school. The grant will also be used to purchase age appropriate educational and developmental resources for the new group, which will enable them to provide a very important service beneficial to more families in the community.
