The Community Foundation for Calderdale have given a £5,000 grant to Halifax Opportunities Trust.

The money will help to better support the integration of recently arrived people from Eastern Europe through the acquisition of English communication skills. Lack of English

communication skills has been identified as a major barrier for these communities to better access local services, improve employment prospects and become more integrated citizens.

The project will provide sessions in conversational everyday English. These will focus on improving the ability of the targeted communities to speak English and will embed key messages about the history/culture of the host community to foster greater understanding and improve community cohesion.

Sessions incorporate practical information to support individuals around important everyday thematic areas; including; education, health, employment, and family support.
