Big Local Partnership with Community Foundation for Calderdale
On the 29th of February 2012 Rastrick was awarded £1m by Big Local a lottery funded initiative. The purpose of the Big Local initiative provides additional funding to individual local groups and organisations and to support longer term sustainable improvements that make the community stronger and more cohesive over a 10 year period.
Adrian Hartshorn from the Rastrick Big Local commented “Rastrick has been chosen for the grant because it was felt to have been overlooked in the past and is known to be in need of extra help for community projects”.
Rastrick Big Local (RBL) successfully delivered a small grants program in 2012/13, by securing £8,000 of start-up funding from Big Local and attracted additional external funding of £5,000 from Community Foundation for Calderdale. Watch the launch video here
Eleven groups have been awarded grants in this round of funding including: Carr Green School, St Matthews Scout Group, Rastrick Juniors Football Club & Longroyde Junior School. See who was funded here http://rastrickbiglocal.co.uk/community_funds_projects_fund.html
Earlier this year Rastrick Big Local started the search to appoint a Locally Trusted Organisation (LTO), a trusted bona fide organisation that is able to receive and hold funding on behalf of the Rastrick Big Local. Adrian Hartshorn of RBL said “Rastrick Big Local were looking for a local organisation with a strong local knowledge and community involvement, a strong partnership network, ability to reliably manage finances.
In April we appointed Community Foundation for Calderdale as our LTO, they have a 23 year track record as an independent charitable grant maker having distributed grants totalling over £16 million to the communities of Calderdale”.
Steve Duncan CEO of the Foundation said “We are honoured to have been chosen to be the LTO for the group. Big Local is an exciting opportunity for residents in the Rastrick area to use at least £1m to make a massive and lasting positive difference to their community. It’s about bringing together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live, something we are passionate about at CFFC.
CFfC manages several funding programmes for other agencies including the NHS (£350k Health Connections over 3 years); Calderdale College (£35k per year); Comic Relief (approx. £20k per year) and supports the Henry Smith Charity locally and many other funds and so has much experience and very efficient systems for managing funds which will be of great value to Rastrick Big Local”.
He continued “We have pledge to support the group not only by holding the funding on behalf of the local partnership but we also pledged a minimum of £5,000 per year for grant making to Rastrick Big Local”.
CFFC will employ a Project Worker for Rastrick Big Local and provide training and development support around fundraising; social media and marketing.
CFFC will use its business contacts broker pro bono support for a wide variety of development support to help Rastrick Big Local”
