If you haven’t already, then Read all about the Foundation’s News! in today’s Halifax Evening Courier – where Page 14 sees our monthly Community Foundation for Calderdale news page, detailing local organisations and projects we’ve been involved in recently.
For the first time this includes what will be our regular monthly Facebook Friend – a community group or charity voted for by Followers of our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Community-Foundation-for-Calderdale/224466037594305 (Sign up and ‘Like’ us, to get all our latest information plus much more! )
And, this month’s Friend is Halifax Street Angels!
The Foundation has supported Street Angels since its launch in November 2005. Because the charity was the CFFC Charity of the Year in 2007, this enabled it to employ a full-time project manager who has strengthened their work in Halifax and helped establish a nationally-renowned UK-wide model of best practice – as similar projects have since rolled out in around 100 towns and cities.
Also featured are Home-start Calderdale – with their plea for more men to come forward as volunteers! the charity currently does a stirling job of offering friendship and information to parents with young children under 5 during difficult times in their lives – but the majority of their cohort of an incredible 120 volunteers are women, whereas Home-start feel that, as men are parents too, they can bring a whole new experience and approach to the role. All Home-start ask is that volunteers are able to provide emotional and practical support to families for 2-3 hours a week. Any dads interested in volunteering should phone Home-start on 01422 340819.
Finally, we feature a charity for young people called Common Purpose, who do valuable work in offering leadership development courses for 18-25 year olds who are currently unemployed, and who recently received a grant for £5,000 from the Foundation.
Watch out for future Community Foundation pages in the Courier!
