Come and see us at SmartSkills in our training room at SmartMove. SmartSkills is the educational arm of SmartMove and offers a range of informal learning courses and projects. We provide a great opportunity to learn new things with educational programmes based around Health and Well Being, Beginners’ Yoga, Confidence with Computers, Financial Skills, Confidence with Reading and Writing, Arts and Crafts, Revamp Your Wardrobe, Job Club, Pre-Tenancy Course, Safety in the Home and Volunteering Skills.Successful learning sessions around ‘Grow your own Produce’ take place at our allotment. Practical, healthy cooking sessions, such as ‘Cook and Eat’ have been run by clients using produce from the allotment. This has lead to a ‘SmartMeal’ recipe book being researched, designed and produced by clients as a learning activity. We are also able to give out free leisure passes for Halifax Pool for swimming and the gym. Wii Fit sessions have also taken place at SmartMove along with activities such as organised walks. We won our second contract with Calderdale Adult Education in September 2011 and were presented with their Quality Assurance Accreditation which is a measure of our success. We are now a Neighbourhood Learning Centre and received excellent feedback from our Ofsted inspection. In addition we run other learning projects for example one funded by the Adult and Community Learning Fund was for clients to produce the SmartMove Tenancy Handbook.Previous projects have included the Calderdale SmartSearch Website, which was an Online directory of adult learning opportunities available in the Calderdale area, now only available in leaflet format as a lot of agencies have since merged, disbanded or rebranded. To see the current course timetable, click here.
