We caught up with David Lees from ABS.
Q1.What do you love about Calderdale?
ABS moved to Calderdale from Bradford in March 2015. Since then we have been overwhelmed with how much of a close knit community we work in. Every business that we speak to and work with have been extremely welcoming and we feel part of this amazing borough.
We have focussed much of our charitable endeavours in Calderdale, in particular with the HomeRun Project and we have supported some wonderful people with heart-breaking and inspiring stories.
We are also surrounded by some fantastic history and landmarks which reflects the area’s heritage and is increasingly drawing in more visitors to the area which is obviously great for business
Q2. Why did you set up a Named Fund with the Community Foundation for Calderdale?
As part of our 30th birthday celebrations, we wanted to give back to the community bigger and better than we ever have done before. To be able to give to 12 different charities and to support longer term projects is important for us. To be able to reach the charities and organisations that may miss out on funding opportunities due to their size is a definite bonus as well for us as a business and charitable foundation. We have worked with CFFC for a number of years now and we feel they are in a great position to support us, just like they did with the successful HomeRun Project.
Q3. What do you hope to achieve with your fund?
As previously mentioned the fund will enable us to support 12 different charities based in Calderdale between May 2019 and April 2020. We will be able to make connections and partner up with these charities which maybe get don’t get recognised for the great work they do.
