During March we will be slowing down activity on Watermark and bringing the project to a gentle close.

What does this mean?

It just means that we won’t be actively promoting the fund, nothing else changes:
• The monies raised are being invested by the Community Foundation for Calderdale and income accrued is being added to the Fund.
• The fund will still accept donations.
• The fund will carry out it’s primary purpose of opening in a major flood event to aid the community of Calderdale.

It’s been an amazing three years where the fund has grown to over £260,000 however things have been slow in the last year and we put that down to the distance we are from the 2015 Boxing Day flood. Life has leaped forwards and memories become faded and flooding doesn’t come top of peoples minds. This is a natural progression and will not be the case for everyone but we have noticed this trend over the last 12 months.

The primary goal for Watermark was to raise a substantial fund that could be used in the event of a major flood, we feel this has been achieved and we are delighted with the support and kindness received. Fingers crossed we don’t encounter a 2015 flood event but the monies are available for emergency grants should the worst happen.

We have been fortunate enough to have a core of lovely supporters who have continually donated to the fund with a Watermark product or offer for the last three years, donations dropping in from all over just because people care. Lots of events have been done to boost the fund and we have met a great number of people we now call friends. This is amazing and we are truly grateful, quite frankly we wouldn’t have been able to do it without you.

From ducks to beers, art to electronics, coffee to seeds, honey to soap and of course the famous Watermark Gin, the list is endless and you have all contributed in your own way. This all sounds very final and that is not the case, the fund will still remain and donations can still be given. With that in mind if you have been holding onto donations now is a good time to get in contact and we can pop along and see you.

Keep an eye on our social feeds over this month and catch up on the lovely stories and videos we will be sharing of the kindness that has been enveloping us for the last three years.
